Leaf-change in Jelutong tree

Jelutong...it’s a big tree and used for its wood. Every working day, I sit on my chair...through the window, a big Jelutong tree is just right in front of my eyes. Tall and strong! Since my office moved to this new premises end of last year, autumn happened twice already! I love the moment when the stiff breeze comes along, the Jelutong tree gets rid of its leaves, and fall leaves drop on lawns and road will be covered in dead leaves. The tree is leafless. But then, there is nothing more beautiful than the young Jelutong leaves start to expand few days later. Beautiful!!!

Fallen stars

It was 10 March 2011... I was staring outside my office’s window when realizing that the grasses were decorated by green stars. I looked up... Ohh, these stars must be belong to this tree! It was amazing because last week the tree looked so pale and lifeless without any leaves. Few days passed by, the green stars kept falling from the tree like rains and covered the grasses just like a beautiful green carpet.

1st April 2011, most of the fallen stars started to wither and turn black. The green carpet almost disappeared when I discovered flowers with seeds here and there among the grasses. It looked like the green stars came out with a new stylish appearance. With their unique petals, these seeds were blown by the wind and will start to germinate if they arrived in a suitable habitat. But these seeds were still young... It was raining and windy for the whole week, no wonder lots of young seeds were carried away from the parent plant.

As time goes by, brown petals began to fall off. Yesterday, 13 April 2011, I could see birds and squirrels hanging onto the tree, eating the buds and seeds. Nature is amazing!
